Default The interesting and useless areas of the GW Map

I have now seen too many of these to ignore my paranoid thoughts.

Are they scenery? Eye candy for the Cartographers? Evil monuments to a still hidden purpose? Part of a larger picture? Or just mysteries that Arenanet left to torture our minds?

Yes. I'm talking about the interesting looking spots on the edges and sometimes hard to get to parts of the explorable map. Such examples would be these:

~South-west of Cathedral Zu Heltzer, the small demonic looking room with the same floor emblem as the guild halls have
~Dragon's Gullet, to my knowledge, the largest standing scenic mural in GW
~The Large tree stump in the Maguuma Stade (perhaps already explained)
~The temple off to the side in the northern shiverpeaks, Lornor's pass

They're so mysterious to look at and wonder about thier purpose.

Alright you lore-masters out there. Enlighten us and your fellow lore enthusiest with your knowledge or ideas, and other places like the one's I've mentioned.

What purpose do these mysterious places serve?

1) Teleport platform like many similar things in gw. Seclued in tisht room with tight access corridor to be easily defended if it was attempted to be used to invasion to heard of kurzicks.
2) Former site of Glint, prophet of true gods, place of ascension before she moved to grain of sand thing and augury rock cosntruction was finished.
3) Just a tree stump.
4) UW access before developers invented ToA, never removed (dont fix what is not broke.)

As for "useless areas of the GW map" other than a physical connection between Ettin's Back and Tangle Root (which you can get to anyway by completing Aurora Glade), Dry Top seems completely and utterly useless. It's a depressing place with no quests leading to or through there.

What? The mejesty rest? Yeah apart from the tomb with that big undead dragon, no other reason to go there unless you trying for the 100% map. What a waste of land imo, someone should open a casino there.

That northern bit above fishermen's haven could do with a few more out post as well.

You forgot about the Temple of Balthazar in the falls.

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/The_Falls

I was the one who got the screen shots of it for that page.

Well, Maguuma and some parts of Kryta are unfinished business.

There is a dozen - no exaggeration - areas there that have no single quest nor are they of any relevance for the storyline.

This is a pity. They added a buffed Rotscale with a green there, which was a rotten piece of junk before this update, which was a very good idea.

What really makes me sad is that ANet ALWAYS has something better to do. Right now they are working on GWEN, then it is GW2.

We might hope for updates and future expansions, but I doubt we get a free content update for these areas.

So many areas of Tyria are empty, I wonder how often people visit the Dry Top in Maguuma if not for vanquishing or cartography.

GWEN adds an even bigger map, huge areas without a single area to play in. And there will probably never be any. Because of the future focus on GW2.

This makes me sad.

hmmm... I used to have a screenie of the Mural in Dragons gullet...must be on my other computer...

Little things like that just make me want to dig deeper and get into the meat and potatoes, the history and backstory of the land. It gives a feeling of age when you've got things leftover, like ruins, that no longer have a purpose, atm.

But that's just my two cents

True, all true.

I mean, the falls is a huge place with good greens and some interesting sites but I've only been there twice. Once for the mapping and once for the one quest that's set there.

I wish there were more 'finishing up quests in ascalon' after you've beaten the game and done TLDD
